This infographic shows details the quick change of fluid from the lower to upper body and the adaptation and slight reduction of upper body fluid over the first several days in microgravity. The first figure standing on the earth shows the normal distribution of fluids in gravity, the second and third show the fluid shift in microgravity with the dotted lines showing the difference. The fluid shift may be responsible , at least in part, for problems astronauts experience in space such as visual changes due to increased intracranial and venous pressures.
